Tooth-Colored Fillings in Salem, OR
Dental decay is one of the most common preventable oral conditions in both adults and children. The introduction of fluoridation into municipal water sources has helped combat the prevalence of sugar and processed carbohydrates in the modern diet, but good home care and professional dental cleanings are also necessary to prevent cavities.
Recommendations to Prevent Decay
Unwavering dedication to caring for your teeth at home combined with professional dental cleanings and exams will help you avoid cavities.
- Brush teeth twice daily
- Floss daily
- Use fluoride toothpaste
- Eat a healthy diet
It is important to remember that many beverages are as harmful to teeth and enamel as candy and sweets. Soda, energy drinks, and commercial fruit juices are high in sugar and acid, which erodes enamel.
Even if you brush and floss your teeth diligently, your toothbrush and floss cannot reach every surface. A dental cleaning with our skilled dental hygienists will ensure comfortable and thorough removal of tartar that has collected between the teeth and just beneath the gumline. Dental cleanings help prevent you from developing gum disease.
Tooth-Colored Fillings in the 97302 Area
Modern dentistry has made many advances in recent decades, including the introduction of tooth-colored fillings to repair teeth damaged by decay. In addition to being more attractive, tooth-colored fillings are more conservative than their amalgam counterparts and require the removal of less healthy tooth structure.
At Salem Dental, we exclusively use tooth-colored fillings, eliminating the need for unsightly metal restorations. Improvements in the composite materials, made of plastic and glass particles, means greater durability and esthetics.
Dr. Seth Huish will match the color of your natural teeth to the filling material so that no one notices your dentistry, only your smile.
We always ensure that you will be completely comfortable throughout your procedure. We numb the area with a topical anesthetic before applying a local anesthetic to numb the tooth.
He will then remove the decay from the tooth, apply composite, and harden it with a curing light. You can chew on your filling right away, but it’s a good idea to avoid anything too hot until the numbness wears off.
Cosmetic Dental Bonding
If you have a small chip on a front tooth or a narrow gap between teeth that has a negative impact on your smile, cosmetic dental bonding can add to your existing tooth structure to improve it. Dr. Huish can complete this conservative cosmetic dental treatment in a single dental appointment without the need for a dental lab.
