Protect Yourself from Gum Disease

Periodontal (gum) disease is an infection of the tissues and bone that support your teeth. The infection can be the result of poor dental hygiene that allows plaque and bacteria to buildup and infect your gums and, eventually, your bone. If it’s left untreated, gum disease can result in tooth loss. It’s the leading cause of tooth loss in American adults.

Science has proven there is a definite connection between the bacteria that causes gum disease and that which causes other health concerns like diabetes, heart disease, dementia, low birth weight in babies, high blood pressure, and stroke. When you suffer from gum disease, the bacteria causing the inflammation that contributes to your infection can enter your bloodstream and travel to other areas of your body and join the inflammation that is causing those other chronic health concerns and vice versa.

A consistent and excellent home care routine combined with regular examinations and cleanings with your Salem dentist every six months is the best way to combat gum disease. Some early symptoms can be red and swollen gums, chronic bad breath, and bleeding when you brush or floss your teeth. Contact your team at Salem Dental to schedule an appointment today if you are noticing signs of gum disease.

General Dentistry Your Family Can Rely On

General dentistry refers to the basics of dental care, and also includes advanced treatments such as dental implants, orthodontics, and surgical procedures, depending on the experience of the attending dentist. General dentistry also includes cosmetic procedures such as veneers, teeth whitening, and full smile makeovers.

A great majority of general dentistry in Salem, OR involves treating damaged or decayed teeth to prolong their comfort and function. Most of us will require a filling or dental crown at some point in our lives. Many conditions require dental x-rays to diagnose properly, as they are not visible with the naked eye alone.

At Salem Dental, you can count on natural-looking dentistry to protect your teeth while improving your smile. White fillings, porcelain crowns, and veneers all improve function as we as the appearance of your smile.

Teeth Replacement Options

When tooth loss occurs, replacing the missing tooth or teeth as quickly as possible is advised. When left too long, the remaining teeth will shift toward the gap in your smile and can cause a misaligned bite and expose sensitive roots. Not to mention that your bone begins to dissolve without a root to support. This can add years to your appearance and affect support for neighboring teeth.

Your Salem dentist can help you replace your missing teeth with a dental implant, bridge, complete dentures, or partial dentures to complete your smile and make it easier to eat the foods you love most.

Tooth Implants

Many consider tooth implants to be the gold standard in tooth replacement since this treatment restores both your tooth and your root. This protects your dental health as no other tooth-replacement option can.

A dental implant is easy to care for as it feels, looks and functions like a natural tooth, and you’ll easily be able to brush and floss. It also offers exceptional longevity since it can potentially last for a lifetime with the right home care and consistent dental checkups.

Dr. Huish and his team can guide you through the process of restoring both your tooth and your oral health with dental implants in Salem, OR.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge can be an ideal option for replacing one or more lost teeth that are next to each other. Using dental crowns as anchors to healthy teeth, a bridge has one or multiple prosthetic teeth attached in the middle. Typically made of ceramic porcelain, a bridge restores both the function to your teeth and aesthetics to your smile.

Partial Dentures

Are you missing multiple teeth but still have many healthy teeth left? A partial denture can be an excellent option to restore your smile.

Using metal or plastic clasps, a partial anchors to healthy teeth and fills in the open spaces with prosthetic teeth attached to a removable appliance.

Complete Dentures

If it’s time to replace all of your teeth, a denture is the way to go. It’s a removable appliance made of acrylic and designed to restore and complement your smile. A denture can also be supported with dental implants to provide an even more secure and stable fit.

Don’t let missing teeth impact your life. Dr. Huish would love to discuss your options for tooth replacement with you. Contact Salem Dental today to schedule an evaluation.
