Emergencies and Root Canals in Salem, OR
It seems that dental emergencies occur at the least convenient times, and if you find yourself without a Salem emergency dentist, you might be left wondering where you can turn for help.
Whether you are a valued existing patient or a new patient who needs emergency dental treatment, we welcome you to give us a call at the first sign of trouble. At Salem Dental, Dr. Seth Huish strives to provide fast treatment for painful teeth – often on the same day.
Some of the most common dental emergencies we treat include:
- Chipped or broken teeth
- Damaged or lost fillings, crowns, and bridges
- Gum inflammation and bleeding
- Broken dentures and partial dentures
- Swelling and pain
- Extreme sensitivity to heat or cold
- Knocked-out teeth
The best way to avoid dental emergencies is to maintain your dental appointments for an exam and cleaning every six months. At your dental check-up appointment, Dr. Seth Huish will evaluate x-rays and examine the teeth and gums for signs of oral health issues when they are smaller and easier to treat.
Your Emergency Dental Exam
We reserve time in our daily schedules to treat dental emergencies. If you are unsure if your condition warrants an emergency dental exam, contact our Salem dental office to discuss your symptoms and our team will be happy to help.

- X-rays of the affected area
- Exam with Dr. Huish
- Treatment options
In some cases, we will be able to complete treatment at your emergency exam. More complex cases will require a follow-up visit. We will always present each of your options along with the cost and timeline to help you make an informed choice.
Root Canal Treatment
One of the most common dental emergency procedures we perform is root canal treatment. While many patients would prefer to avoid root canal therapy altogether, this tooth-saving procedure is actually designed to relieve pain and save your tooth from extraction.
Using modern rotary instruments, Dr. Huish will clean infection and bacteria from the internal canals in the teeth and seal the tooth with a restoration designed to add stability and strength to the tooth. In most cases, dental crowns are the best option, especially for molars, which absorb most of the force from chewing.
While it is common to feel slight sensitivity for a few days, having a root canal eliminates the problem of infected teeth and helps patients get on track for healing and feeling like themselves again.
We strive to provide same-day appointments
